Deep Cleaning vs. Standard Cleaning: What’s the Difference?
A standard cleaning keeps a home that is already in good shape clean. A deep cleaning resets a home that has fallen behind, or gets it ready for a recurring plan. Booking the wrong one is the most common reason a cleaning feels unfinished.
What a standard cleaning includes
- Dusting furniture, shelves and decor
- Vacuuming and mopping all floors
- Bathrooms: toilet, shower, tub, sinks and mirrors
- Kitchen counters, sink and the outside of appliances
- Emptying trash and replacing liners
- Making beds and tidying common areas
What a deep cleaning adds
- Hand-wiping baseboards, door frames and switch plates
- Inside the oven and microwave
- Window sills and tracks
- Scrubbing grout in showers and kitchens
- Dusting behind and under light furniture
- Removing heavy grease and soap scum
When you need a deep clean
- The first cleaning with a new company
- It has been more than a month or two since the last professional clean
- Before or after a move
- After guests, a renovation or a long illness at home
- Seasonal reset once or twice a year
Time and price
A deep clean usually takes 1.5 to 2 times longer than a standard visit, and the price follows. In Atlanta, Angi puts deep cleaning around $0.25 per square foot, against $0.11 to $0.21 for a standard clean. Many people start with one deep clean and then switch to a biweekly plan, which keeps every following visit shorter and cheaper.
